Make copies of your documents (passport, credit cards, ATM card, health insurance card) and leave a copy with your parents or someone else back at home or school. Make sure the copies include the front and back of all such documents.

You should also carry a copy with you in a separate place from where the originals of the documents are kept, such as a pocket in your luggage or a travel-mates lugguage. If your originals get lost or stolen, it's easier to cancel credit cards or to replace stolen items if you have all the information with you.
